Introduction

Hold Me Tight® Workshops are designed for couples with the purpose of helping them gain insight and tools to foster greater closeness, love, and connection.  Hold Me Tight ® Workshops are based on EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), designed by Dr. Sue Johnson. Studies show that EFT helps 70% of distressed couples repair their relationship.

What all Hold Me Tight® Workshops have in Common:

  • Hold Me Tight ® workshops help couples make sense of interactions and emotions and helps couples restore secure connections.
  • Engaging your thinking brain and your experiencing brain, each workshop moves back and forth from didactic presentations to couple-specific experiential exercises (with individualized assistance as needed). Exercises are conducted one-on-one with only your partner.
  • Each workshop, which includes a group of couples (minimum of 4 couples and a maximum of 8) is a gentle, yet structured workshop. We offer an engaging, safe, non-blaming, non-shaming experience for all couples in attendance.
  • A Hold Me Tight ® workshop is an educational experience, not therapy.
  • You are not required to share personal information during presentations or discussions.
  • Each workshop is conducted at our retreat site at 15 Bear Knoll Dr., Asheville, NC. There are many outdoor spots where you and your partner can engage privately in one-on-one exercises.
  • Schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Lunch Break from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM)
  • Over the course of this 1-Day workshop, couples learn and experience the following conversations of Hold Me Tight ®:
  1. Understanding how you and your partner get into negative patterns of interacting.
  2. Finding the underlying feelings that guide your negative patterns.
  3. Learning how to reconnect after moments of disconnection or conflict
  4. Generating positive patterns of reaching for and responding to your partner.
  5. Discovering ways to continue building a secure bond after the workshop has ended.

What is Unique About This Particular Workshop

  • This program, a version of the original Hold Me Tight ® workshop, is adapted for Christian couples.
  •  Created for Connection is based upon Created for Connection: The Hold Me Tight Guide for Christian Couples, written by Sue Johnson, with Kenny Sanderfer.
  • You will learn and experience the five basic conversations listed above.
  •  In Created for Connection, you will learn more about: (1) the God-given nature of love between partners, and (2) the sacred circle of connection with a partner that reflects and grows a connection with a loving God.

Hold Me Tight workshops are NOT designed for couples in which:

  • One or both partners is clearly no longer engaged in the relationship.
  • One or both partners is actively involved in a secret affair with a third person.
